Our Story

Our Story

Inspired by the breathtaking views of the Pacific Northwest and a pair of problematic, dull hiking socks, Rami Nasr set out to create a sock that allowed hikers to feel supported, From the Ground Up, on their adventures. Socks as tough as the hike, but as beautiful as the view. After a difficult hike in the Cascades, I reached the peak with a stunning view of Mount Rainier ahead of me. But instead of focusing on the incredible 360º view, I was feeling the 7,200 ft elevation I had climbed… in my feet. This wasn’t the first time this had happened either. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, I’ve grown up an avid hiker… and have burned through a ton of hiking socks. My feet have blistered, bruised, sweat and screamed (okay not actually screamed, but you get the point). I’d had enough. It was there, at the top of that hike, I thought to myself, this has to end. There has to be a better hiking sock in the market. That’s when I vowed to start my own brand of hiking socks. I spent months researching, sourcing, and designing hiking socks that were like nothing else in the market. Socks that didn’t sacrifice quality for style. Socks that were inspired by the beautiful landscape in Washington State. Socks that not only feel good, but do good. From The Ground Up was born, a brand specializing in high-quality merino wool socks durable enough for hiking, and stylish enough for everyday life. We focus on finding harmony in quality and style, celebrating the Pacific Northwest, and supporting the trails we hike. With sustainability and stewardship at our core, we donate 5% of each pair sold to nonprofits committed to protecting our trails and public lands. So take these socks on your next adventure, bring a friend, snap some pictures. We’ll be there with you every step of the way.   Rami, Founder From The Ground Up

The Benefits of Merino Wool

The Benefits of Merino Wool

Hiking and outdoor recreation has been getting more and more popular in the United States in recent years. Over the last decade, there have been an additional 12 million Americans who have gone hiking. With this surge, it’s important for people to understand the importance of good hiking gear, all the way down to the socks. We’re going to explain to you the benefits of merino wool socks. In cold, wet weather, standard cotton socks get damp, leaving you with that horrible wet sock feeling. When you’re on a hike, the most important thing to protect are your feet. If you’re wearing cotton socks and it starts to rain, you may as well not be wearing any socks at all. The solution is to invest in quality wool socks, especially soft merino wool socks, which offers several advantages over cotton. Unlike cotton, wool is the great insulator. It will keep your feet warm during those cold winter months Merino Wool is Anti-Microbial and Anti-Bacterial by nature, meaning Merino Wool socks are odor-resistant Because of Merino Wool’s odor-resistance, you can wear your wool socks several times without having to wash them, making them perfect for packing on backpacking trips Because of Merino Wool’s insulating properties, your foot will stay dry even while the wool is wet And because of that, your merino wool socks will dry out much faster than cotton and other synthetic fabrics Merino Wool is also naturally absorbent, meaning it will wick away moisture, which is perfect for preventing sweaty feet and preventing blisters   So before going on your next backpacking trip, or if you’re just looking to invest in some really good socks, make sure you do your research on Merino Wool. At From The Ground Up, we specialize in the highest quality merino wool socks all made in the USA. You can pick up your own pair of From The Ground Up socks by clicking the buy now link below.
